PostHeaderIcon Color multifunction laser suggestions?

I have just started research to buy a color multifunction laser printer. Mixed reviews out there. I would like to spend $500 or so (or less!). Anyone been thru this process that can help me with finding a reliable machine with reasonable quality print, low cost per page for toner. I am not as concerned about noise or warm up time. I am considering a brother 8480 and the hp 2320nf. I am open to other suggestions.
OOps I think it is the Brother 9440 color.
I know the toner is cheaper for the brother, but the drum needs replaced every 17000 or so copies. It is expensive to replace. I think we do about 7000 pages a month on this machine in our small office.

Hello,

The Brother MFC-9440CN consumables are cheaper and it does print at a higher resolution, but for an office environment we would recommend the HP CM2320nF because each time you replace the toner cartridge you are also replacing the drum, and charge roller for that particular color. Moreover, you do not have the added cost of replacing the imaging unit at 17,000 pages, and don’t have to worry about keeping corona wires clean. We hope that we have addressed your concerns.

PostHeaderIcon If duty cycle of a laser printer is Up to 10,000 pages monthly, what does it mean?

http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/pc-peripherals-printer/laser-printer-multifunction/mono-laser-mfp/SCX-4300/XIP/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=spec&fullspec=F

So what is a maximum duty cycle, anyhow?……………………………………………..

Obviously, the maximum monthly cycle is not a number that really affects how many pages you should expect to print a month. Some speculation in different articles and forum postings on the Internet suggest that the maximum monthly cycle may be related to how many pages you could expect to print in a month without causing it to malfunction or damaging it permanently.

Most of the practical information on the Internet said that, because the duty cycle in printers varied so much between manufacturers, and because each company’s maximum numbers differed from their recommended numbers, it was of very limited utility in deciding whether to buy a printer.

Don’t, however, buy a printer with a maximum duty cycle of 2000 pages a month, and routinely print 5000. The printer is not meant to stand up to such high use. Parts will wear out far sooner that their expected lifetime and may cost you a great deal more in service calls.

What can you learn from the maximum duty cycle?……………………………

To get a measure of use out of what the maximum duty cycle means for laser printers, do some approximations based on your normal volume of printing. If the recommended monthly average is from 3000 – 20,000 pages, divide the highest number by two. If you print more than 10000 black and white pages a month, you should consider getting a printer rated for a higher recommended duty cycle. If you are printing in color, remember that your print head is going across each page four times- and divide the maximum recommended number by four. If you are going to be printing more than 5000 pages in color a month, or a combination of color and black and white that is approaching the maximum recommended number, you should think about getting a printer rated for a higher maximum duty cycle. And remember, if you are doing duplex printing, you should multiply those sheet numbers by two.

What you should consider before buying a laser printer……………………………….

More importantly, for choosing the best printer for your needs, look at the supplies. If you are printing 5000 pages a month, and your printer has a 250 sheet paper tray, you are going to be putting new paper into the printer practically every work day. If your toner cartridge is rated for 2000 pages, you are going to replace that two to three times a month as well. Those toner cartridges are expensive. That personal sized laser printer is probably going to need its fusor changed a lot more often than the Lexmark T650n’s standard 300000 pages too.

Look for a printer where you can get a high yield printer cartridge that will last you a couple months, minimum. And get a printer that has the ability to add on paper trays until you can pack a week’s worth of paper into the printer at a time. For your 5000 pages of printing, try to get trays that add up to at least 1000 sheets and a toner cartridge that gives you 20000 average copies.

Find out what parts need to be replaced on the printer throughout its lifetime. There are drums, fusers, and rollers, filters, and sometimes developer, depending on the printer. Check fuser prices and the number of pages you can print before you need to replace the fuser unit. Remember, replacing the fuser can often cost half the price of buying the printer. However, the printer is a plastic box with trays, a few gears, memory, and the interface to the printer, without the fuser. When you replace the fuser, there is no reason why you will not get another 300000 pages of printing.

How to pick a printer……………………….

In conclusion, while knowing what the maximum duty cycle of a printer is can be a shortcut to eliminating certain printers from your search- or a pointer to go to a more powerful printer- the numbers themselves are not all that important. Look at what you need your printer to do and pick some models that look like they can handle the volume of printing you need. Then look at all the other variables of things you need to buy besides the printer itself, to give yourself the total cost of ownership for each one. Then you can make an informed decision that will suit your needs without being a money pit.

PostHeaderIcon Multifunction Colour Laser Printer, £300-500 Any Ideas?

PostHeaderIcon All in One Multifunction Printer

AIO stands for “all in one” and MFP stands for multifunction printer/peripheral/product.

But what is difference between these two. Don’t suppose to do same task. In fact they do same thing but in different scale and quality. AIO is small desktop used for home, the larger one is used for small office/home office (SOHO). But the MFP is used for large office desktop with additional parts and features.

The idea of AIO (all in one printer) or MFP (multifunction printer) came from the twenty first century people who don’t bother to move because they don’t have time and space for that. Therefore internet and easier compact, remote control technology created besides working from home to replicate the office environment in residential place.

How come all in one multifunction printer become so popular. Because it handles the issue of taking up all the office space with all sort of machines. In fact its combination of all regular office needs in one device. Multifunction printer can be offered in diverse functionalities and features depend on demands.

Before invention of all in one multifunction printer, it was vital to have all of different functionality devices separately and was such a mess to configure and place them. But now you just sit and by pushing the button, do all send and receive documents process like a piece of cake.

What are these Features and Functionals?

• Printer: The major part that holds the name “all in one multifunction printer”. It can be offered in various models like laser printer or inkjet printers. Also depends on type of usage can be designed in multiple paper feed size and type.

• Fax: fax or facsimile is a telecommunication for sending and receiving documents through telephone lines. MFP devices include this functionality which raises its capability.

• Scanner: Turning paper to electronic documents capability is another feature of all in one multifunction printer.

• Copy: Many times people need to copy a piece of paper which is for personal use at tax period or when sending out an office memo to all coworkers, copying is an essential piece of office equipment that is included in multifunction printers.

AIO for home users usually is not networked and connected with USB or parallel. Sometimes they have wonderful features which is lacking in larger desktops like smart card readers or connection to digital cameras. The SOHO the small home office size are usually networked and connected with USB and parallel. They may include document storage additional to print, fax, copy, scanner features.

Office MFP units are usually full featured. They beside the basic functions like printer, fax, scanner, copy may have advanced features like duplexing, stapling, holepunching, offset modes and booklet creation. They always networked and connected with USB or parallel.

At last Production Printing MFP are large freestanding expensive units which don’t include advanced networking features like the smaller version but instead concentrate on functionalities like high speed, high quality output, finishing includes book making with cover insertion. They often divide in two segment, light and heavy printing production which factor of speed differentiate them. By the way, all multifunction peripherals divide by factor of speed (pages per minute=PPM) into different segments.

PostHeaderIcon What multifunction printer should I buy?

I own a small business and need a new multifunction printer. It has been suggested that I buy a HP laser printer at $900 (AUD) but the salesman has told me that it will only last about two years, as they all do. Is it worth spending more when it won’t last any longer than the cheap ones? What brands do you like?

$ 900.00 is quite a bit of money to spend on a printer.

Whatever brand of printer you buy, I would definately stay away from Dell and / or Lexmark; Dell’s are expensive to operate [Inkjet Cartridges], & most, if now all, Lexmark’s are total junk.

* A little known secret today: Lexmark is the actual maker / manufacturer of Dell printers; In my opinion, this was a disasterous decision by Dell – Dell has worked very hard to bring their total sales closer to HP – Lexmark will surely drag them down.

Laser vs. Inkjet – I would go with Laser; any more, prices are pretty close to each other; you should be able to buy an intermediate Laser Printer for $200.00 – $300.00.

If you do not do a lot of printing, you might consider a HP All-In-One; Wal-Mart is selling the HP DeskJet F4140 All-In-One [Printer / Scanner / Photocopier] for $ 78.53; includes one Black & one Tri-Color Inkjet Cartridge(s). One drawback here – these are small cartridges – each hold only 05 ml of ink.

~ 10 months ago, I bought a HP Deskjet F-340 All-In-One; costs ~ $ 83.00, & overall, has done a pretty good gob. It also uses the small Inkjet Cartridges, & this is kind of a pain – The Black HP-21 costs ~ $15.00, & the Tri-Color HP-22 costs ~ $18.00.

If you do buy a Inkjet printer, you might pay attention to the ink capacities of the cartridges – the more, the better.

Good Luck,

PostHeaderIcon Anyone used Fuji Xerox Multifunction Laser Printer before? What’s your comment on their product?

Are the consumables expensive and how’s their after sales service?

Thank you for all the input.
I’m actually looking at the model PE220.

Top quality product, the after sales service people are great as well. The consumables ARE a little expensive but if you ask they might have a plan whereby for a certain amount of money a month you get as many as you want and they even come around and install this for you (they call this valet service). The prices vary so do the maths on how much you’ll use and whether it’s worth it.

Also, if you care, they don’t use very much power so they are more environmentally friendly.
